fountainbleu hotel

"i'm better than you."

yesterday i went to go see the field/juan maclean at the fountainbleu.
i didn't get in because i wasn't 21. but that's not the point of this blog.
point of this blog is that i witnessed another side of miami i only saw in Ocean Magazine and movies like Bad Boys 2.
it was one of those bars that housed really cool, sheek people. and the tiles under them were neon blue.
I KID YOU NOT.
NEON BLUE.
i swear it was like a present day fellini film.

it was ridiculous and it kind of made me realize i am not part of any upper echelon cool-nessin miami.
even the people that went to the field show consisted of pleather-wearing aging hipsters.
i only saw one person with a beard, tattoos, and skinny jeans. WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!
also, it turns out only 5 people came to see The Field and the rest were there to see The Juan Maclean.
BUMMER.

stealing everyone's sunshine

summer is cool.
one of the things i love about summer, besides doing absolutely nothing in 90+ degree weather, are summer songs, or summer records.
i'm shoeing in on some potential summer records this coming 3 months.
i can already that the new passion pit cd is gonna be playing everywhere. i heard it a couple of days ago and found it to be obnoxious? i don't know-- it seems like that's the right adjective to describe this record. loud and obnoxious synth pop. a little disappointing but you can't satisfy everyone.

let's see. uhm. i just heard the new grizzly bear record, Veckatimest, and really enjoyed what i heard. this should be a summer record because it contains that lo-fi dream tone that was present in yellow house and relates to the haze of summer, but it might be drowned out by passion pit. or "my girls" by animal collective.

the new phoenix record is really fun. though, i've had a leaked copy for about 2 months, i still think this has potential to be blasting through your ipod while the sun hits your face.

the wavves record, wavvves, which came out earlier this year can still act as a great summer record. no doubt.

i recently listened to the new Juan Maclean album, the future will come, and found it to represent miami in the best way possible: corny as fuck, but still brilliantly tolerable. if this isn't a miami summer cd than i give up.

let's see. anything else? gimme some suggestions.
